About the Creators.

Off Course Footing works with the goal of bringing dance out of a traditional theatre or studio setting, and to the general public by making use of pre-existing available space within the natural world.

Our objective behind this is twofold. First, to consider the interrelation between art and nature, and second, to make dance more accessible. As we hold these values, we are asking: How can we make contemporary dance works that are relatable to a larger public beyond the dance community? What barriers exist within contemporary dance communities that block us as artists from connecting with non dancing audiences? These questions arise in our work in response to our core artistic and communal values of accessibility and connection to the natural world.

Off Course Footing was founded in 2019 by Sadie Segriff (she/her) and Barbara Simms (she/they). They are deeply grateful to work out of both Tkaronto, Ontario, the Traditional Lands of the Huron-Wendat, the Anishinaabe, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenosaunee, and the Chippewa Peoples, and Whitehorse, Yukon, the Traditional Lands of the Kwanin Dün FIrst Nation, and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council.
